5 - 6 pm: Jesus leaves his Most Holy Mother
"O Celestial Mama, the hour of the separation is approaching, and I come to You. O Mother, give me Your Love and Your reparations; give me Your sorrow, because together with You I want to follow, step by step, adored Jesus.
And now Jesus comes to You, and You, with Heart overflowing with Love, run toward Him and in seeing Him so pale and sad, Your Heart aches with pain, Your strengths leave You and You are about to fall at His feet."
Reflection:
One thing I love about Luisa is that in the Hours of The Passion she always asks for Our Lady to accompany her as she follows Jesus. She fuses in Divine Will and bilocates to our Lady's side. She asks for the help of the only other person living in Divine Will. Her prayer is at a high level, and so too is ours when we fuse and ask for Our Lady's help.
Luisa asks for Our Lady's love, her reparations and her sorrow so as to make them her own. She asks for her heart, and with her she wants to follow Jesus step by step, which is saying she doesn't want to miss anything of their sufferings but wants to share in them. We too need to slow down and in praying these hours allow the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts and lead us to a deeper understanding of Jesus' sufferings, step by step. Mastication takes time.
Jesus then comes, and she with her heart overflowing with love runs toward him. Her mind and intentions were always on Jesus, not for any self gain. Jesus also even though He had divine sorrow for mankind he was also sorrowful in his mother's sorrow. They were both resigned to Divine Will even though it was to be very costly. We can identify in our own ways with their sorrows perhaps in the experience of watching a loved one suffer and maybe die and there may be nothing we can do. We may just have to surrender and accept the situation and say let your will be done O Lord.
"O my sweet Mama, do You know why adorable Jesus has come to You? Ah, He has come to say the last good-bye, to tell You the last word, to receive the last embrace! O Mother, I cling to You with all the tenderness of which my poor heart is capable, so that clinging and bound to You, I too may receive the embraces of adored Jesus. Will You perhaps disdain me? O isn’t it rather a comfort for Your Heart to have a soul near You, who would share its pains, affections and reparations?
O Jesus, in such a harrowing hour for Your most tender Heart, what a lesson of filial and Loving obedience to Your Mama You give us! What a sweet harmony passes between You and Mary! What a sweet enchantment of Love rises up to the Throne of the Eternal One and extends for the salvation of all creatures of the earth!"
Reflection:
Jesus comes to his mother firstly to give her his blessing and to ask for her's, but also He wishes to say the last goodbye, to say the last word, to give her the last hug. He wants them both to receive comfort in a human way to sustain them for what is coming. We can empathise with them here as we think of how many times we said goodbye or hugged a loved one, whether as one leaving or perhaps dying. Our last physical encounters strengthen us for life ahead without them.
Luisa clings to Our Lady with all of her heart's capabilities which implies that she knows her human limitations, but nevertheless she give her all and she trusts Our Lady totally. In clinging to her she hopes to receive the embraces of Jesus. We see here how Our Lady is the intercessor and how we receive from Jesus through her. Also in our frequent communions, many of us in welcoming Jesus into our hearts, invite him to take his delight in Our Lady's embrace and pray that we too be caught up in that embrace.
Luisa addresses Our Lady with questions about disdaining her closeness to her and the comfort of having a soul to share her pains, affections and reparations. We know from praying the Hours that Jesus said one of the most painful parts of his Passion was the feeling of abandonment. And as Our Lady is fused in Jesus she also feels that abandonment, that loneliness, especially of him being rejected and abandoned by people throughout his ministry and Passion. She shared in his pains and as we read in the Book of heaven Jesus never shared a pain with her before asking for her Fiat first. We, by fusing in Divine Will can console her and Jesus by remaining close to them, sharing in their pains and making reparation.
Luisa then addresses Jesus as she observes the close relationship He and his mother have. They have both lived all their lives in Divine Will and He gives us an example of how, as He is obedient to her, we are also to behave towards Our Lady. In that sweet enchantment of love He divinises our obedience to Our Lady and also to our earthly mothers.
Both of them are being obedient to Divine Will which ultimately will demand that He give his life and she gives her son's life.
“O my Celestial Mama, do You know what adored Jesus wants from You? Nothing but Your last blessing. It is true that from every particle of Your being nothing but blessings and praises come out for Your Creator; but Jesus, in taking leave of You, wants to hear the sweet word: ―I bless You, O Son. And that ―I bless You” removes all the blasphemies from His hearing, and descends, sweet and gentle, into His Heart. And Jesus wants Your ―I bless You,” almost to place it as a shelter from all the offenses of the creatures.
I too unite myself to You, O Sweet Mama. Upon the wings of the winds I want to go around the heavens to ask of the Father, of the Holy Spirit and of all the Angels, for an “I bless You” for Jesus, so that, as I go to Him, I may bring Him their blessings. And here on earth, I want to go to all creatures and ask, from every lip, from every heartbeat, from every step, from every breath, from every gaze, from every thought—blessings and praises for Jesus. And if no one wants to give them to me, I intend to give them for them.”
Reflection:
In praying through these hours I often put myself in the shoes of those in a particular scene. Take for instance Jesus approaching Our Lady to ask for her blessing. It says in the Book of Heaven Volume 11 that she was Jesus’ heaven, and I putting myself in his shoes see her sad and sorrowful and about to faint as his feet. How must this have affected him because even though they were fused together in Divine Will and were fully conscious and aware of what each one suffered and why, they also suffered in their humanity.
Jesus came to her to hear her say “I bless you O Son”. There is power in the spoken word and just as she was asked for her Fiat at the Annunciation and through that spoken word He became flesh, so too in hearing her say this blessing, it shelters his hearing from other numerous spoken words of blasphemies. Her word of blessing descends into his heart and gives him courage to let go of her pure embrace and instead be embraced by impure chains and ropes which symbolise our sin.
Our Lady wanted to make Jesus’ pains her own and as we try to imitate her in our own sufferings, Jesus is drawn towards us and sees us as his mother.
Luisa fuses herself in Divine Will and unites herself to Our Lady and then bilocates around the heavens to gather all the blessings in the supernatural sphere and brings them to Jesus. She also goes around the earth asking blessings for every thought, word and action, voluntary and involuntary from mankind. In Divine Will she has the Power, Immensity and Sanctity of the Trinity in act in each soul. She takes these, makes them her own and offers them as blessings and praises to Jesus and also intends to make reparation for those who may refuse him. She covers everything in act and by placing the intention.
“O Sweet Mama, after going round and round, to ask of the Sacrosanct Trinity, of the Angels, of all the creatures, of the light of the sun, of the fragrance of the flowers, of the waves of the sea, of every breath of wind, of every spark of fire, of every moving leaf, of the twinkling of the stars, of every movement of nature, for an “I bless You,” I come to You and I place all my blessings together with Yours. My Sweet Mama, I see that You receive comfort and relief, and that You offer Jesus all my blessings in reparation for the blasphemies and the maledictions that He receives from creatures. But as I offer You everything, I hear Your trembling voice saying, “Son, Bless Me too!”
O my Sweet Love, Jesus, bless also me, together with Your Mama; bless my thoughts, my heart, my hands, my works, my steps, and with Your Mother, all creatures. O my Mother, in looking at the face of sorrowful Jesus, pale, sad, harrowing, the memory of the pains that He is about to suffer awakens in You. You foresee His Face covered with spit and You bless it, His Head pierced by the thorns, His eyes blinded, His Body tortured by the scourges, His Hands and Feet pierced by the nails; and wherever He is about to go, You follow Him with Your blessings.”
Reflection:
Luisa takes flight into the heavens, to the throne of the Holy Trinity, the angels and all of creation. We can kind of run through this previous sentence quickly and focus on creation where we are more familiar but our angels were created with a mission to bring us into a deeper knowledge of Divine Will and this is one of their tasks. Whenever we spend time reading the volumes we should ask our angels to impart new knowledges to our minds and hearts.
Luisa does rounds on everything, and everything is in the present moment, in act and new, because all is in Divine Will, including her. She takes heed of everything like every breath of wind and the movement of the leaves… Things that we might sometimes take for granted. She then comes to Our Lady and places those blessings with hers. Our Lady finds comfort in them and then offers them with her own to Jesus to make reparation for the offences he receives from us.
Jesus goes to her not only to ask for her blessing – she is the only one living in the Divine Will, and who can bless him in Divine Will – but that she would ask for his blessing too. He gives her his blessing first and in blessing her he also intended to bless us all individually and in general. All of our thoughts, words, heartbeats, steps and movements made for him.
Jesus wanted to bless his mother to also give her strength to undergo all of what was to happen in his passion, and through living in Divine Will she was graced in knowing in advance the sufferings He was to suffer in his passion and she uses hers and our blessings to console him. Nevertheless she still suffers in her human nature as we read how she trembles in her voice as she asks for his blessing.
The last line of this excerpt, “You follow Him with Your blessings,” reminds us of Luisa’s closing prayer after each hour.
“I tried to follow You in everything; and now, having to leave You for my usual occupations, I feel the duty to say to You, “Thank You,” and, “I bless You.” Yes, O Jesus, I repeat to You, “Thank You,” thousands and thousands of times, and, ―I bless You,” for all that You have done and suffered for me and for all. I thank You and I bless You for every drop of Blood You shed, for every Breath, for every Heartbeat, for every Step, Word, Glance, bitterness and offense which You endured. In everything, O my Jesus, I intend to seal You with an I Thank You” and an I bless You.” Prayer after Each Hour HoTP
We also, in imitating Luisa can go all around heaven and earth and do rounds on everything in as much as we can. Then we bring our blessings to Our Lady and offer them to Jesus with and through her.
“And I too will follow Him together with You. When Jesus is struck by the scourges, crowned with thorns, slapped, pierced by the nails, everywhere He will find my “I bless You” together with Yours.
O Jesus, O Mother, I compassionate You. Immense is Your pain in these last moments. The Heart of one seems to tear the Heart of the other.
O Mother, snatch my heart from the earth and bind it tightly to Jesus, so that, clinging to Him, I may share in His pains, and as You cling to each other, as You embrace, as You exchange the last glances, the last kisses, being in between Your two Hearts, may I receive Your last kisses, Your last embraces. Don’t You see that I cannot be without You, in spite of my misery and my coldness?
Reflection:
In this excerpt Luisa unites herself to Our Lady in following Jesus and joins all of her blessings together with hers. She said previously in this hour that she wants to follow him step by step so that there is nothing he suffers that she will overlook. I imagine Luisa and Our Lady accompanying Jesus, one on either side to give him support and comfort no matter where he looks, is pushed or suffers. Both Luisa and Our Lady are entwined to Jesus and to each other. Luisa also gives consolation to Our Lady by her accompanying Jesus.
Luisa observes the pain in the Son and his Mother. One sees the pain in the other, and what Jesus suffers in leaving her is reflected in her heart and vice versa. Our Lady is not concerned with how she will have to now live life alone, but rather her heart is torn and she is consumed with trying to console Jesus in these last moments of family normality.
Luisa prays that Our Lady will snatch her heart from anything that is not of God and to bind it tightly to his heart. She wishes to share in the pain of their separation.
Have you ever given someone the last kiss or hug with the certain knowledge you will never see them alive again? Some of us can only imagine what this pain would be like. Nevertheless, Luisa in spite of her coldness and misery prefers to be part of this sorrowful scene than to be apart from it and watching from a distance.
Perhaps we too can ask ourselves, where are we in this sorrowful scene? Are we consumed with our unworthiness and prefer to watch from a distance, until we feel or think we will be ready?
Let us be courageous like Luisa and placing ourselves between their two hearts pray, “May I too receive Your last kisses, Your last embraces. Don’t You see that I cannot be without You, in spite of my misery and my coldness? Amen.
“Jesus, Mama, keep me close to You; give me Your Love, Your Will. Dart through my poor heart, hold me tightly in Your arms; and together with You, O Sweet Mother, I want to follow, step by step, adored Jesus, with the intention of giving Him comfort, relief, love and reparation for all.”
O Jesus, together with Your Mama, I kiss Your left foot, asking You to forgive me and all creatures, for all the times we have not walked toward God. I kiss Your right foot: forgive me and everyone, for all the times we have not followed the perfection You wanted from us. I kiss Your left hand: communicate to us Your Purity. I kiss Your right hand: bless all of my heartbeats, thoughts, affections, so that, given value by Your Blessing, they all may be sanctified. And with me, bless also all creatures, and seal the salvation of their souls with Your Blessing.
O Jesus, I embrace You together with Your Mama, and kissing Your Heart, I pray you to place my heart between Your two Hearts, that it may be nourished continuously by Your Love, by Your sorrows, by Your very affections and desires, and by Your own Life. Amen”.
Reflection
In the above excerpt we see Luisa imploring Jesus and his Mother to keep her close to them in order to receive their love, the Divine Will, to dart through her heart with their sorrow. She bilocates to be with Our Lady and places the intention to follow Jesus together with her along each step of his Passion, giving him comfort, relief, love and reparation in the name of all … us.
She remains together with the Blessed Mother and along with them we kiss Jesus’ left foot, asking forgiveness for all the times we have not walked towards God. We don’t have to try too hard to remember all the times in our own lives we have not walked towards God and perhaps hindered others from doing so too. Let us with her ask for his forgiveness for ourselves and in the name of all.
With Luisa we kiss his right foot in reparation for all the good we did with poor intentions, us and everyone, past, present and future.
We kiss his left hand asking for the grace of purity in our thoughts, words, actions and also our intentions. Jesus speaks often to Luisa about the purity of intention.
United with Luisa we kiss his right hand and ask for his blessing on our whole beings so that we may be sanctified. Jesus’ blessing gives value to everything.
"My daughter, in the act of blessing my Mother I also intended to bless each creature individually, and all in general, in such a way that everything is blessed by Me: thoughts, words, heartbeats, steps and movements made for Me. Everything – everything has been given value by my blessing.“ Vol 5. Oct 3, 1903
Luisa, in asking for his blessing for herself also asks for his blessing on all souls for their sanctification. She prays that her heart may be nourished continuously by his love and his sorrows, affections and desires. She puts no limits on him and on what He wants to do in her.
We on the other hand may struggle sometimes to allow ourselves to be nourished continuously by his love and especially his sorrows. Jesus however, is kind to us and knows that we are unable to be all things at all times…
“since the capacity of the creature is very limited, and one of them alone is unable to grab everything I did, I act in such a way as to continue my reparation in one soul, praise in another, thanksgiving in another; in some others my zeal for the salvation of souls, in another my sufferings, and so with all the rest. According to how they correspond to Me, I carry out my life within them.” Vol 5. Oct 3, 1903
In order for Jesus to be able to nourish us continuously we need to strive to remain in a state of grace to enable us to have a listening ear to the various requests he makes of us and to respond in love.
"My Jesus, may Your Blessing precede me, accompany me and follow me, so that everything I do may carry the seal of Your 'I Bless you.' Amen." HoTP Reflections 5pm
